Visa and Immigration policy of Lithuania for international students wanting to study in Lithuania is a bit easier than the other European countries. Many students from developing countries like Bangladesh, India, Nepal etc. fly for Lithuania to pursue a course of higher education.
Since students are intending to live in the Republic of Lithuania for a longer period, they must obtain thetemporary residence permit (TRP) in the Republic of Lithuania. Students coming from the Member States of the European Union also nationals of Norway, Switzerland, Iceland and Liechtenstein shall be issued a residence permit for a national of European Community Member State - EC residence permit.
If you are intending to study in Lithuania, Students coming from any other country than EU Member State and applying for the issue of a residence permit (TRP) for the first time shall submit an application for the issue of a residence permit to diplomatic mission or consular office of the Republic of Lithuania abroad. The application shall be examined not later than within six months from the date of receipt of the application. Student of EU Member State shall submit an application for EC residence permit in Lithuania (to the migration office according to intended place of residence). Application shall be examined not later than within one month from the date of receipt of the application.
Students legally staying in the Republic of Lithuania can also submit an application for replacement of a residence permit (TRP) in Lithuania (to the migration office according to the place of residence). Application for replacement of a residence permit shall be examined not later than within two months - an application for the EC residence permit - not later than within 1 month.
Students coming from the countries whose citizens are required the entrance visa shall submit an application for the visa issue together with application for residence permit (TRP).
Visa and TRP is obtained through the mediation of the University at the student's expense.
The following documents should be submitted for visa and TRP application:
1. Application Form;
2. Valid passport or ID;
3. University mediation documents;
4. Documents certifying a financial status of the applicant;
5. Health insurance policy.
